The annual invitation to the WOM FORUM once again resulted in many visitors from the hospital network of WOM. The Forum has already become an established institution for doctors from the Berlin-Brandenburg region and enjoys great popularity. In addition to interesting lectures, the exchange between hospital and businesses is the special feature of the meeting.
With a lecture on “Strategy in the battle for the best minds of surgical new talents,” this year’s guest speaker Professor Keck* provided interesting insights about what young physicians after their training desire of their workplace. The hospital of today must not only offer different models concerning work-life balance and working hours, but must also deal intensively with gender issues such as women in surgery.
Just how much the economy is vying for the best talents and what efforts are therefor necessary was presented by CEO Oliver Kupka. “It takes a lot of effort to be an attractive employer in medical technology. But it takes even more work to remain that attractive employer, since this process never ends,” stated Kupka. Finally, the clinical expert Johannes Voss delivered a retrospect of clinical validation in 2016 with an outlook to this year.

*University Prof. Dr. med. Tobias Keck is Director of the Department of Surgery at the UNIVERSITÄTSKLINIKUM Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) since 2012. The UKSH with sites in Kiel and Lübeck is one of Europe’s largest medical centers and employs around 12,500 employees.
